Extreme Sets Control Center Deluxe Diorama Photo Review

$

0

Extreme Sets have been pushing out awesome modular dioramas for the last couple years, and last year they really kicked things up.  For Transformers, they dropped the Control Center and Headquarters sets which are orange and purple themed bases, perfect for setting up your Autobots and Decepticons respectively.  Now they are back with a remix of the Control Center, this time scaled for Masterpiece figures.

It comes with 6 walls, 2 of which have doors now, 3 floors, and several pieces that connect to the walls to add 3d pop outs for monitors and panels.  The wall panels each measure 20 inches by 18 inches, so when you connect all 6 you get a 10 FOOT wide display that is 1.5 feet tall.  BIG!  Now, most of us won’t do that, so having the different panels to layer behind the open doors and put in different spots on your shelves is really what all that is for.  The ability to set up and break down quickly, and store flat when not in use is a bonus.

All in all it’s another epic set that is welcome here both for my display and using in toy photography.   We took the set for a spin, head on over to the full gallery to check out over 25 HD images of what it can do!

And, if you are interested, the fine folks at Extreme-Sets.com have given us a coupon code for a discount on your orders. Enter code TOYARK at checkout and get 15% off your order!

You can now surf to their respective threads on our forums and chime in with your thoughts about these releases:

Alternatively, you can click on the bar to check out the mirrored gallery which includes group shots of the three Maketoys Seekers. Both figures can already be pre-ordered in our sponsors below for about $119.99.

Unique Toys take on G1 Bruticus is indeed a massive and impressive release. Colors are based on the G1 cartoon animation rather than the original toys colors. The first three components : MT-01 Archimonde (Brawl), M-02 Gahz’ranka (Swindle) and M-03 Kalecgos (Onslaught) have already been released, and you may buy or pre-order them in any of our sponsors below. Rumor: Possible Studio Series Bonecrusher

$

0

We have a very interesting rumor for Transformers Movie collectors. A possible Studio Series Bonecrusher may be on the works.

An image of Taobao listing was shared via TFCN Group on Facebook. It indicates an upcoming Studio Series Bonecrusher. We only have a placeholder image here (it seems they used the shadow of the 2007 Deluxe mold), so we should take this with a grain of salt until we get an official confirmation.

With no information on price or size, we can speculate a lot here. Bonecrusher is another popular character which many fans dream of a new bigger and proper mold. Studio Series already brought a great new Leader Class Blackout, so many fans are hoping for a Leader Class Bonecrusher too. We see that Studio Series toys are now working the scale among all the line. Considering what we saw on the 2007 Transformers movie, a Voyager Bonecrusher toy may work better with the new Studio Series Optimus Prime.

What are your expectations? Do you think a new Bonecrusher mold is on its way? Let us know your predictions at the 2005 Boards!

Transformers: Power OF The Primes Nemesis Prime Full Packaging And Stock Images

$

0

Thanks to TFCN Group on Facebook, we have our first look a the front packaging and possible stock images of the upcoming Power Of The Primes Nemesis Prime in all his modes.

This nice repaint and remold of POTP Evolution Optimus Prime was revealed previously via a Russian Transformers page.  We finally have pictures not only of his robot mode, but the alt mode, accessories and the respective repaint of the inner Orion Pax. The figure includes 2 swords and 2 big cannons that can be attached to the arms, similar to the good-old Armada Optimus Prime. Talking about Armada references, his red sword may also be a reference to the one used by Armada Nemesis Prime. All weapons can connect to the trailer in alt mode.

On the remolds, we had already seen that Nemesis Prime will have a new head, and the new images reveal that Orion Pax will also have a new evil-looking head. As a nice extra bonus, this figure includes a new like-bird-partner/drone: Decepticon Giza, which transform into one of the swords. The name Giza is a reference to the Arms Micron (Minicon) Giza which was included with Takara’s Arms Micron Nemesis Prime.

It is still unknown if this figure will be a mass retail or an exclusive item. You can click on the bar to check out the mirrored images after the jump and then sound off your impressions at the 2005 Boards!

Encore God Fire Convoy 2018 In-Hand Review & Gallery

$

0

Fiah! Transformers Encore God Fire Convoy has officially landed, and this is a set I’ve been waiting for eagerly since they day it was announced.  For those that may not know, I am a huge Car Robots fan, it was the first series that started fresh after I returned to collecting.  Originally out in Japan during 2000 and the US in 2001 as Robots In Disguise, Car Robots was the return of Transformers to vehicle form after it’s Beast era run in the 90s.  New versions of Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus in their own self-contained story coupled up with new Autobots to battle a collection of Beasts and Decepticons (slightly different telling of story in Japan, but you get the point).  While the show may not have been the best, the toys were aces and still hold their own even by today’s standards.  The ones that exemplify that are these two – Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus.  They are large, complicated leader class toys that combined together.  Optimus even had a armored up mode and mini base by himself in addition to the Omega Prime combination.  18 years on and nothing has really been attempted or matched it in complexity at this scale.

So today we are taking a look at Takara-Tomy’s Encore release.  This is not an exact reissue, there are changes on both figures, mostly in color.  We’ll go over that and some QC issues after the break, courtesy of TFSource!

Recent Masterpiece Releases: Encore God Fire Convoy, MP40 TM Hot Rod, Sunstreaker, MP15E/16E, MP12+ Anime Sideswipe, Megatron, Dinobot, Masterpiece Pre-Orders.

You can check over 200 images of the full set in our gallery system below!  We will add this to RIDForever.info soon!

God Fire Convoy Giftset (Encore 2018)

Transformers Encore God Fire Convoy Giftset

Overall Thoughts:

Ok, where to begin. First off, the box.  It’s a remix of the TRU Japan giftset box (see here).  Very similar with slight changes to highlight the updates.  Very cool.  I loved seeing that red, orange and yellow color scheme again.

My first impression getting these guys out of the packaging was that the plastic was significantly different from the originals.  It’s a very hard plastic, feels brittle.  I didn’t have any breakage issues, but it feels like that initially.  This makes it a tad lighter than the originals as well.  It’s not that big a deal visually, and I worked these guys pretty good for the photo shoot with no structural issues due to the plastic change, so it only makes a difference to in-hand feel.  Which I didn’t like, but if it’s needed for cost reasons, so be it.

Colors.  Both of these are richer, brighter than the originals.  More saturation.  This is most evident on Ultra Magnus, his blue is much deeper.  And the whites – stark white.  No bone, off-white to it.  They really pop visually like this, and they are not overly rich.  They are at the max level of saturation before it starts looking ridiculous.   So kudos on that.  I have almost every single variant ever made of these guys, so having a difference here without doing a full redeco was welcome.

The sword is different from the original release in the TRU Japan giftset.  I liked that because I paid a mint to get that set, for the sword.  However, after researching things for this photo shoot, I realized the colors for this sword actually match what it looked like in the show (see here from Ridforever).  So technically this sword is toon accurate, which I really like.  Now Brave max can have the TRU Japan sword and GFC can rock this one.

Chrome – less of it.  Fire Convoy loses it on his chest.  Magnus loses it on his front grill / GFC chest.  But, we keep it on Super Fire Convoy’s ears, God Magnus’ Autobot symbol in the middle of the grill, and God Fire Convoy’s ears.  This is a nice differentiation, and actually makes sense with them becoming highlights.  That being said, I would have been content if they just only chromed the Autobot symbol on the GFC chest to make it a centerpiece.

Stability – I’ve read reports of people having issues with GFC standing properly.  In my case, it was the same as he always was.  A top heavy sunovab****.  Nothing significantly different than any other version I have.  In fact, after 18 years, this guy kept his poses way easier than the original that was on my shelf.  That doesn’t say much though as he will tip over super easy if you don’t have him in a straight up stance.  Leg joints could never hold the weight.

Molding issues – I had some.  Fire Convoy’s feet seem to have some mold warping, or something.  In robot mode, you can’t tell.  His feet are on a ball joint so you can get him standing how you need to.  In fire truck mode though, they are meant to swap around and be the roof of the cab.  Those do not line up flat anymore.  Never had anything like this on previous versions so either the mold changed, or they are assembled wrong (see here).

Sound effects – some are reporting swapped voice chips, with Fire Convoy having Magnus’ and vice versa.  This will affect the gimmick, as different configurations and weapon modes trigger different sounds on each and while combined.   My copies luckily were correct, and functioned properly.  Supposedly there are new and more sounds, but I don’t have the original set up with batteries to compare.  What I heard was sharp and cool, in Japanese.  You don’t get the same oomph as you would if it was the US voice actors IMO, so that’s a moot point for me.  Lights are same as before – eyes, fire truck lights, etc.

Overall – I dig it.  I was super hyped, then bummed when they announced the recall and issues, but now I’m back to even footing with him.  I’m definitely not looking to return him, and in fact, I am going to be swapping out my OG Car Robots version that has been sitting combined on my shelf for 18 years with this one.  (My RID shelves have thinned in recent years, but they still take up 2 10 foot stretches 🙂 ) I really dig the sharper colors, whiter whites.  And the toon accurate sword is a bonus.  The lower quality plastic, warped underfoot, and voice issues (that I don’t have) won’t affect him standing in Omega Prime mode rocking that sword until 2036.

Bottom line – if you are super into Car Robots, and plan on having him primarily in single or combined robot modes after you mess with him, he is worth a pick up especially because of the sword.  If you just want the molds sans sword for constant transforming or to have one single version of the figures – grabbing originals on secondary market will be cheaper.

Make sure to check out over 200 shots of the set in our gallery here!

Transform Dreamwave 3rd Party Round Up – Combiner Upgrades and More

$

3rd Party group Transform Dreamwave have had a busy last few 24 hours. The group has updated with several prototype pictures from multiple projects. There is truly something for everyone to enjoy here. First off, from Oscar Fung’s Facebook page comes a Titans Return Sixshot upgrade kit. The TCW-05 delivers a new head, swords and hands for the leader class Phase sixer. Next up, from Taobao, comes TCW-04. A brand new upgrade kit intended for Unite Warriors Computron. The kit includes hands, feet, chest armor and thigh armor for the combiner. TCW-03 is a similar upgrade kit, but for Unite Warriors or Combiner Wars Superion. It contains the same type of offerings as the Computron kit. Last but not least, is an upgrade kit for Power of The Primes Volcanicus. This bad boy features a slew of accessories for your Dinobots and their combined form. Not only does this kit give you a torso armor upgrade, a giant sword, and the standard hands & feet, but it also includes firearms and swords for all of the individual Dinobots. The combined form with the upgrade kit installed looks absolutely beastly.

You can check out all of the images attached to this news story or you can jump in on any of the discussions at the threads below:

IDW Transformers Solicits for July 2018

$

0

IDW have released their solicitations for July 2018. July brings double issues for both Lost Light and Optimus Prime – with issues 21 and 22 of each series solicited for release – along with issues 1 and 2 of the Unicron miniseries which will serve to cap off the entire IDW Transformers continuity to date. All of the series are moving toward the grand finale we’ve been promised – and we would like to flag up some of the cool art related things for these solicits, including James Raiz providing the art for the alternate B covers for Transformers Unicron, which will connect into a single image, and Generation 1 comics artist Geoff Senior returning to the fold to provide alternate covers for Lost Light 21 and 22! Unicron also has an excellent bit of artwork for one of its issue 1 retailer incentive covers (there will be three), which is a recreation of the classic Marvel Transformers #1 cover by Bill Sienkiewicz.

On the movie side of things, issue 2 of the prequel to Transformers: Bumblebee is also dropping this month. And for those that missed it, Transformers VS Visionaries “the prequel to this month’s Unicron event” is getting a trade paperback release in August, but it is being advance solicited now.

We would warn you that there are BIG UNICRON SIZED SPOILERS in these solicits (including the cover art) – so if you do not want to know what is coming up, including spoilers for the end of today’s Optimus Prime issue 17, give this story a pass.

Thanks to Planet Iacon Facebook group we have our first look at the Takara Tomy Masterpiece MPM-05 Barricade Box.

The box is pretty similar to the Hasbro version we had seen before, with some minor differences. In the front, Barricade’s name is written in Japanese. Instead of the 4-language “Movie Series” logo in the upper right, there’s only a single text. The back of the box has got some slightly re-arrangement of the panels showing the gimmicks, and more Japanese text of course. The images shown are the same as the ones in Hasbro’s box, but we still have no information on any real differences with the colors of the Hasbro mold.

This could be an indication that MPM Barrricade will be out anytime soon for the Japanese market and for fans who pre-ordered this version.

You can check out the mirrored images after the jump and then sound off at the 2005 Boards!
